Zeichnen ist aus der Mode und das Papier längst vom Bildschirm verdrängt? Im Gegenteil, mit jedem Rendering wächst die Lust aufs Analoge. Mit seiner Ausgabe No. 42: Walk the Line zeigt uncube, wie Architekten heute mit dem Stift arbeiten. Der koreanische Architekt Moon Hoon versteht seine Häuser beispielsweise als Comic-Abenteuer, in den Bildern des Londoner Studio Weave mischt sich das Phantastische mit dem Pragmatischen und die Gruppe Kosmos führt vor, wie sich mittels Zeichnungen im virtuellen Raum entwerfen lässt – während ihre Mitglieder in Basel, New York und Moskau weilen.

Die Ausgabe ist übrigens frei von den üblichen Polarisierungen: der Nutzen des Handzeichnens wird ebenso thematisiert wie das Bemalen ganzer Häuserwände oder das dreidimensionale Modellieren mit dem Computer: uncube legt den Fokus ausschließlich auf das kommunikative Potential, das eine Darstellungsform zu entfalten vermag.

uncube issue no. 42: Walk the Line is dedicated to the art of drawing in exactly that spirit: to the skills and tools that architects are using at the very heart of their practice – as they always have – to explore and deepen their own scope, that of their trade and to share their ideas.

Drawing by hand, by computer, in two dimensions, three, four, or more, is one of the most powerful communication tools there is and the ways in which drawing is now used as a means of expressing form and ideas is manifold – not in spite of, but arguably because of – the post-digital shift. This issue of uncube both celebrates and investigates drawing in the architectural context and is, naturally, richly illustrated with some truly spectacular work.
